Question
"A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing" Windows Installation Error
Answer

If, during the installation of Windows (This is known to happen specifically on Windows 7 and Windows Small Business Server 2008 but could happen on other versions) you get the same error message as in the screen shot below, follow this guide for information on how to fix it and continue with the installation.

"A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing" error message

Details

This error occurs when the computer does not have the drivers required to run RAID and is actually nothing to do with the CD or DVD drive.

Resolution

In order to resolve this you need to download the appropriate RAID drivers for your computer's motherboard. If you know the manufacturer of your motherboard you can usually get these from their website or a disk that came with your motherboard or PC.

Note: Windows Small Business Server 2008 can use drivers designed for Windows 7 in case your manufacturer does not provide RAID drivers specifically for Windows SBS.

Once Downloaded, extract / move the appropriate files to a USB flash drive, floppy disk, external hard drive or burnable CD / DVD in order to transfer them to the computer on which you are getting the error.

Usually it will be relatively obvious which files you need. This is where we found ours, and this is what they could look like:

"A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing" location

Once you can access the drivers from the computer on which you are getting the error, click "Browse" and navigate to the directory that holds the files and click OK.

Windows should search and find the drivers and continue with the installation process.
